Rancho Corral de Tierra

Please check with your supervisor, discuss it with your team, and forward this invitation to any staff who do not have a work email address.

Tentative Itinerary:

  • 8:00-8:15am       – Carpools at Fort Mason leave for Gray Whale Cove State Beach
  • 9:00-9:45am       – Meet at parking lot of Gray Whale Cove State Beach; shuttles will take you into Rancho
  • 9:30-10:00am     – Registration
  • 10:00am               – Welcome and Kickoff
  • 1:00pm                 – Wrap-up and Lunch

Your Help is Crucial:

This Park Day will support one of the rarest plants at the newest site in the GGNRA. Rancho supports more than 95% of all known Hickman’s potentilla individuals on Earth, and they need our help! This tiny and important wildflower literally helped stop a highway from being paved over beautiful Montara Mountain, and now it needs a big boost. Come help us fight invasive Harding grass that's threatening to smother this low-growing, charismatic flower—all while experiencing Rancho's breathtaking coastal views.

Important Notes about this Park Day:

  • Rancho is a scenic 45-60 minute drive from San Francisco down Highway 1.
  • Attendees will park at Gray Whale Cove State Beach parking lot, where we will have passenger vans shuttle groups to our meeting point in Rancho.
  • Work will primarily involve mulching (laying cardboard, moving/spreading straw bales on a sloped hillside). We'll have tasks for all activity levels.
  • We will work until 1:00pm. Lunch will be catered by the Parks Conservancy kitchen.
  • Restrooms are porta-potties.

Please RSVP by August 18th, and only if you are certain you can attend. Stay tuned for more information regarding the day’s activities, carpooling, food, and what to bring. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Matt Noreika (
